'EDGE for Schools' digital programme goes online

Learning resources for all ages

Over the last year our 'EDGE for Schools' programme, funded by the Arts Council of Wales, ran over 40 digital skills workshops, working with almost 200 pupils at four schools in Conwy county. While the gallery is temporarily closed due to concerns around COVID-19, and with all off-site activities on hold, we are taking the remainder of our programme online which means we can open up our fab digital workshops to everyone, everywhere. The workshops are aimed at young people aged 7 - 16 but anyone can have a go!

Workshops include 3D drawing and modelling, augmented reality, animation and image manipulation, with opportunities to contribute to collaborative artworks which will be displayed on MOSTYN's digital channels.

Designing a Future Wales

Learn to use SketchUp software, with artist Paul Eastwood, and contribute to a brand new digital artwork (suitable for adults and children aged 12+)

A series of tutorials in which you'll learn how to draw 3D objects using SketchUp software. You'll then use your skills to design some buildings for a future Wales. Send your designs to us to contribute to a shared vision of your Future Wales which will be exhibited on MOSTYN's website and social media.

Suitable for adults and children aged 8+. Adult supervision is recommended for ages 8-12.

Learn how to make your own clay from garden soil, make a sculpture and then learn 3D scanning and AR (augmented reality), with artist Kristin Luke. You’ll use the app Qlone to create a virtual version of your sculpture, which you can place in unexpected parts of your house! This tutorial combines the most ancient and current technologies to re-imagine your space, which perhaps will provide a brief escape from the confines of quarantine, without having to leave your home.

Kristin’s step by step video will teach you all the skills you need, then you can send us your finished work for us to share on MOSTYN’s website and social media.

Learn to use simple software and drawing/collage techniques, with artist Elly Strigner, to create a short animation and contribute to a brand new digital artwork (suitable for adults and children aged 7+)

By watching Elly's short 'How to' film, you will learn how to create and animate letters and words on the theme of Nature. Create an animation up to 30 seconds long and then send your short films to us to contribute to a colourful collaborative word-based animation!

Learn to use image manipulation software to digitally alter your own photographs on your phone or tablet. (suitable for age 13+ and anyone interested in basic photo editing)

Join Holly from our Engagement Team, as she takes you through five ways to manipulate your photographs using the free Adobe Photoshop Express app. Send your digitally charged images to us for sharing or keep screenshots for your art/design coursework.

About EDGE

MOSTYN’s EDGE programme has been funded thanks to the generous support of the Arts Council of Wales and Innovate UK. From January 2019, MOSTYN has worked in conjunction with Wrexham Glyndwr University and resident PhD researcher Clare Harding to look at what audiences want from a public art gallery in the digital age.
