Art, Aesthetics, Architecture and Algae

a talk by Professor David Thomas - School of Ocean Sciences at Bangor University
23 June 2018, 1:00pm

Are the worlds of observational biology and art and design as different as we perceive them to be? This talk will show how they are underpinned by similar inspiration. ‘Ultimately the scientist who fails to see the aesthetics in their science, or the artist who fails to perceive the mathematical form in their subject, will always fall short in their respective interpretations of nature’s design.’

David Thomas ‘s PhD subject was seaweed physiology. He subsequently worked on oceanic projects worldwide before returning to the UK. He is currently Chair of Marine Biology and Head of School in the School of Ocean Sciences in Menai Bridge. His particular interest is in conveying his science to non-specialist audiences.
