Unstrung and Melancholia

Love Video
26 March - 7 May 2011

Our ongoing Love Video series is a chance to catch up on some interesting video works from the past decade or so – or to get to love video for the first time.

Brennan’s concerns are the vulnerability of the human body and the fragility of the human psyche. In Melancholia, a naked woman, cramped and contorted, lies on a white sheet in an open-fronted box while black liquid slowly bleeds out from behind her, saturating the sheet and spilling onto the floor. In Unstrung, a woman in loose white clothing stands in a pristine white room. Suddenly a torrent of black fluid knocks her off her feet. She repeatedly scrambles up only to be swept over again by the next wave of liquid.
