We've Got Mail III

22 October - 5 February 2017

We’ve Got Mail III is part of MOSTYN'S 'History Series' of exhibitions which respond to the context in which the shows are presented, in this case that of a former Royal Mail sorting office into which MOSTYN’s galleries were expanded in 2010.

Previous exhibitions offered a brief history of the Royal Mail, also presenting the postcard and its links with the town of Llandudno as a seaside resort, and artworks by artists that referred to the mail service in different parts of the world.

The focus of the third We've Got Mail exhibition is the Llandudno Post Office, next door to the gallery, which has provided a significant community service since its opening in 1904. Postal workers share their stories alongside new works by contemporary artists. The artworks will be sent to MOSTYN via the postal service, and will seen for the first time when opened by the curator.

About the History Series:
Through a combination of historical texts, objects and images, and works by contemporary artists, each exhibition observes a specific period in the building’s history. The intention is to offer the opportunity for the public to engage with MOSTYN’s past, and for local people to explore their own history, while MOSTYN’s history is presented on a national and international stage. The building’s former uses are taken as starting points from which to explore new avenues for the making and presentation of exhibitions, and for the engagement of audiences.
