MOSTYN Shop Window is Overall Winner

The shop window at MOSTYN gallery in Vaughan Street, Llandudno was judged overall winner of the Hazel Mann Victorian Window Prize at the town’s Victorian Extravanganza this weekend.

The beautiful art nouveau windows have been dressed with a combination of makers’ work alongside vintage fairground items.

The display forms part of an exhibition, The Slate Sea, currently on show in the gallery, which combines photographs and films of local people and places with vintage railway posters and seaside artefacts. Situated around the building are further artefacts on loan from Bob Borzello, Director of the Camden Trust who commissioned the exhibition project and accompanying book.

Also on show at the gallery is an exhibition of seaside postcards which iliustrate the stories of a number of local families, each with a rich heritage of involvement in seaside entertainment in the town.

Barry Morris, MOSTYN Retail Manager said: We’re really pleased to receive this award. We hoped our window display would characterise the colour and excitement of the Extravaganza. Having the original fairground items on loan has been such a great opportunity to showcase the beautiful handcrafted contemporary craft that we stock here in our shop.

The window display will remain on show until 31st May 2015.
