GALLERY SHOP WINDOW COUNTS DOWN TO CHRISTMAS

Advent

MOSTYN gallery in Vaughan Street, Llandudno launches its Christmas countdown as the gallery shop's beautiful art-nouveau windows are transformed into a giant advent calendar created by Llanrwst based artists Chlöe Augusta Needham and Sophie Schärer.

Papercut artist Chlöe and printmaker Sophie combine their skill with paper and imagery to create the stunning piece inspired by traditional German streetscape calendars, and by the architecture of Llandudno. The pair were awarded the gallery's highly regarded annual commission to dress the festive window.

The buildings and landscape of the town are elegantly represented, incorporating intricately cut architectural detail. Over the month of December, the twenty four windows will open to reveal beautiful linocut prints, each revealing a glimpse of the festivities inside. The window will be on display until 8th January 2017.

Commissioned artist, Sophie Schärer said:

I found working on the window with Chlöe a very rewarding experience. I’m proud of what we've created together and hope that people enjoy seeing the scene unfold as the days of Advent pass by.

Retail manger Barry Morris said:

I loved the idea of a window scene that unfolds in the build up to Christmas. Chlöe and Sophie have created an inviting and interactive scene and this eye-catching display really makes good use of our fantastic shop window.

The window commission allows us the opportunity to provide a platform for designers and makers to showcase their work to a wide audience and contributes to their development. It’s wonderful that we can support artists in this way.

The window display runs until January 9th 2017.
