Athena Papadopoulos

Baby Gisus, 2020
£600

Faux fur, thread, stuffing, glue, hair dye, veil, enamel spray, puffy paint, veil, wire, gauze, gold leaf
Edition of 6

Working across sculpture, painting, text and sound, Papadopoulos’ practice defies traditional representations of the body, creating excessive, decaying and abject hybrid forms hovering between the worlds of the imagined and the real. Through a process of assemblage, her work is formed of found objects amassed and collaged together. Traditional binary perceptions of gender and sexuality are uprooted and unfixed.

This limited edition was made especially for the exhibition Cain and Abel Can’t and Able at MOSTYN March - October 2020. Each work fuses different references taken from the song ‘Giraffe Jesus’ with other themes such as death, mourning, life and growth that resonate throughout her multimedia installation.

10% of [the artist’s commission] sales will be allocated to a charity of Papadopoulos' choosing, to help at risk communities local to Hull, UK.

MOSTYN is a charity registered in the UK and proceeds from the sales of the editions will be invested back into the gallery's exhibition and engagement programme.
