MOSTYN, Wales UK is delighted to announce Women’s Art Society II, the fourth in a series of exhibitions reflecting on the rich heritage and history of the gallery building.

The show is a sequel to the first Women’s Art Society exhibition in October 2013, which took as its starting point the gallery’s founding by Lady Augusta Mostyn. For two years the gallery housed works by Gwynedd Ladies Art Society who were denied membership of male dominated local art societies on the basis of their gender. Women’s Art Society II continues the spirit of the original Ladies’ Art Society, inviting nine internationally active female artists, to introduce work in the gallery space some 100 years on. In part, a survey of the discipline of painting today, the works display a range of approaches, styles and conceptual concerns, and point to painting’s continued relevance.
This exhibition is curated by Adam Carr (MOSTYN Visual Arts Programme Curator) and produced by MOSTYN, Wales UK. The history section of the exhibition is brought together in collaboration with Jane Matthews and Richard Cynan Jones. A full-colour publication will accompany the exhibition featuring a curatorial essay, texts on the participating artists and the history research process, and installation images. It can be ordered by contacting: [email protected] #womensartsociety2
