Annual Christmas window commission at MOSTYN

Ding Ding Designs

Following a national call out to artists and makers, the beautiful art-nouveau windows of the shop at MOSTYN in Llandudno’s Vaughan Street are once again home to the winning design of the gallery's annual Christmas window commission.

The display by Nottingham-based designer Jenna Round of Ding Ding Designs, which will be on show until early January, is a modern take on Jenna's memories of hanging the decorations at her grandparents' house and is reminiscent of the fragile glass baubles, in bright colours and strange shapes, of the 1950s and 1960s.

On winning the commission, Jenna said: "I wanted to create a really colourful display, something that brightens up each passerby’s day and evokes memories of festive decorations. It would be wonderful if, in the future, coming to see the fabulous window at MOSTYN becomes another part of every family's Christmas tradition.

Each year MOSTYN invites proposals for the design of the Christmas display, and previous winners have gone on the secure commissions at Liberty, London, Manchester City Gallery and the Craft Council.

MOSTYN’s Retail Manager, Barry Morris, said: I was drawn to the bright colours, playful shapes and 3D elements of Jenna's proposal and the finished window brings back the childhood excitement of decorating the Christmas tree. It looks amazing and is a really welcoming addition to our Christmas shopping experience. Our shop stocks a huge range of talented makers so we're encouraging everyone to come and support local and independent makers and small businesses this year. As a registered charity, all profits from MOSTYN shop support the gallery's exhibition and engagement programmes.
