Portffolio: artist-led masterclass for 14-18 yr olds

Capturing Worlds with James Griffiths
31 March 2018, 11:00am

11am-5pm

Build miniature landscapes to trick the camera

James Griffiths’s workshop will turn your view of the world upside down! Using nothing but flour, colour pigments and circuit boards, you can create miniature landscapes. Photographing the surfaces using a special lense gives the illusion of aerial photography, and rows of tiny objects become a vast city skyline. Learn new photography techniques and come away with photos of your false landscapes.

About the Artist:

James is a British artist based in Bristol, England. His works often revolve around Middle eastern culture, politics and ideology. Having witnessed the rapid transformation of the physical and cultural landscapes of the region, James has taken a particular interest in the notion of cultural displacement. His most recent works explore the relationship between place and identity, creating fictional documentation through the crude manipulation of imagery from the region. The work explores the plausibility of the western utopia in a Middle Eastern landscape.

£12.50 per workshop or 3 for £30.

Workshops include a 1 hour break. Please bring packed lunches.

What is Portffolio?
MOSTYN’S Portffolio programme is an Arts Council Wales funded initiative for young people with a passion for the visual arts. Aimed at students in Conwy aged between 14 and 18, the programme sets out to nurture and support more able and talented students. Experienced artists from a range of disciplines will share their work and help you develop your skills in exploring materials and techniques you may not have used before. There will be opportunities for you to discuss your work and develop your personal portfolio.
