Daniella Valz Gen - Create your own myth / POEM & SPELL

We have worked with artist Daniella Valz Gen to produce activities which explore myth making, poetry and spell-craft that are inspired by the epic works of poets and artists such as David Jones. These packs are available in Welsh and English and are free of charge in the Learning Studio at MOSTYN and are also available to download as PDF files for you to print from your own home. These packs are also available as accessible plain text versions.

Create Your Own Myth (Ages 6+)
A myth is an ancient story with extraordinary characters and events. Some myths tell us about the origin of places, cultural beliefs and symbols. Discover new myths and create your own through the use of collage, writing and drawing in this activity pack.

POEM & SPELL (Ages 14+)
We make sense of the world around us through language, and we can use language to enact power over meaning. This resource pack contains two activities, the first of which you will learn how to write a remembrance poem to memorialise a person or event. The second activity guides you through the process of making your own spell, a creative expression charged with intention and emotion.

About the Artist
Daniella Valz Gen is a poet, artist and card reader, born in Lima, Peru and based in London. Their work explores the interstices between languages, cultures and value systems with an emphasis on embodiment and ritual, through the mediums of performance, installation, conversation and text. Valz Gen is the author of the poetry collection Subversive Economies (PSS 2018). Their prose has been published in various art and literary journals such as Lish, SALT. Magazine, Paperwork Magazine and The Happy Hypocrite amongst others. They're currently developing the next stage of their project (be)longing, a series of immersive elemental rituals. Valz Gen runs monthly gatherings exploring poetic practice in relation to the symbolism of Tarot cards within the container of Sacred Song Tarot.
