Jo Shapland

Since 2004 dancer, choreographer and artist Jo Shapland has been visiting Mostyn as part of her (in)scape residency project in which she has experienced the Gallery’s expansion into the Post Office building in all its phases, from empty, disused spaces through demolition and construction to completion.

By exploring, site-specifically, the qualities of architectural spaces through the body and movement, she has developed film and photographic imagery and made sculptural and found objects informed by her approach to drawing and choreography and drawing on her experience of the spaces and the changes they have undergone. A performance by the artist and others will mark the opening of the new Mostyn, followed by an exhibition of the objects and artefacts which have been made and accumulated along the way as part of the process of her coming to understand and respond to the architectural qualities of the building.
